Three schools in Avon, Elyria and North Ridgeville were awarded by the Ohio Academy of Science for STEM education.

Holy Trinity School in Avon, St. Jude School in Elyria and St. Peter School in North Ridgeville received the Governor's Thomas Edison Awards for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for the 2018-19 school year.

To receive the award, schools must meet the following criteria: conduct a local science fair with 12 or more students, qualify two or more of those students for one of the academy's 17 district science days, have students participate in youth science opportunities beyond the classroom and convince external STEM professionals how and to what extent the school's program met the academy's definition of STEM education.
